Event Marketing – record-setting donations for non-profit

Challenge:

Each year, Sierra Pet Rescue hosts a Halloween event to raise funds for the community animal shelter, helping to offset the cost of food, inoculations, medical services, and other basic necessities. The fun kicks off with “Yappy Hour,” hosted by local craft brewers and vintners, followed by an auction, a raffle, a BBQ dinner and the “Pooch Parade” costume contest, a perennial favorite. Not long before the big day, the shelter’s GM called and asked us to provide an estimate for designing and printing custom event invitations and envelopes. Time was short and the budget was tight.

Solution:

After understanding the client’s needs, we proposed a comprehensive event marketing package that far exceeded her expectations, including elements such as:

  • A direct mail invitation featuring photos of successfully adopted animals
  • List fulfillment using USPS® Every Door Direct Mail® (EDDM®)
    blanketing a 5-mile radius
  • Program booklets, auction cards, auction paddles, banners and signage
  • Medals for Pooch Parade winners
  • A custom hashtag and social media plan 
  • Donation thank you cards

Results:

By all measures the event was a huge success. Besides being totally sold out, shelter donations hit a record high–50% greater than any previous year.  In the weeks that followed, we learned that pet adoptions were also up, allowing the shelter to take in even more needy and neglected animals. Equally gratifying was the shelter GM’s satisfaction. She was thankful for our quick response, and grateful for being able to hand-off her marketing to a company that “really gets it.”
